Finding Inspiration

Auntie Sarah and I recently had a fantastic get-together. She traveled to California for us to enjoy some quality time and get to experience fun adventures together. It was absolutely lovely - even despite last-minute changes to our schedule including but not limited to delayed return flights due to illness. We soaked up every opportunity to relax, recuperate, and read a ton of books. However, following this visit, both of us found ourselves lacking motivation to get back into the swing of daily life. Reality kind of put a damper on those feelings of bliss from spending valuable time with friends.

So how is it that we can find inspiration and motivation in times when it feels like we’re hitting a wall?

  1. Take time for personal reflection

As Auntie Sarah shares in the video above, one of the best places to start is within ourselves. Sit down for a moment and quietly reflect on how you’re feeling. Perhaps taking some time for meditation or prayer could help to center you. Or maybe a few minutes to journal your thoughts can allow unexpected creativity to flow through your willingness to reflect.

  2. Experience Nature

Taking the time to go outside can be a great source of inspiration. Even if it means bundling up or getting the umbrella from your coat closet. You could take a short walk, go for a hike or a swim, or even just take a chair and plop it in some grass. The important part of this is choosing to be present in whatever way you decide to enjoy the outdoors.

  3. Talk to a loved one

Our community is such a large part of the influence and fulfillment we find in our lives. Taking a few moments to reach out to a friend or family member could be just the spark you need.

  4. Look back on previous work

You have been on a unique journey in your life and your previous crafts will likely be a reflection of that. Take time to review the items (or pictures of the items) you’ve made to remind yourself how far you’ve come. And if you haven’t crafted anything yet or are just looking for something new, try utilizing social media to find new ideas. We love sharing tidbits on our platforms and would be honored to be a source of inspiration for you.

It takes a little intentionality to open the door to creativity and an ounce of courage to set off with an idea. Once that wall or roadblock is overcome, inspiration has room to flow. We hope that this quick list is able to help you formulate a plan for where you want to go. Auntie Sarah and I have been thankful to hold onto the ideas we gathered while being together and look forward to pursuing some of those in ways we can share with you soon.
