DIY Embroidery Pattern

Have you ever been inspired by something (picture, artwork, craft, craft kit, etc) and wanted to make something unique? Auntie Sarah has you covered!

In this video, Auntie Sarah shows how you can create a design of your own and transfer that design to be used in an embroidery project. We’ll also outline the steps here to help you remember:

Start by creating your design

Auntie Sarah decided to use the same craft kit she had worked with previously to keep all of the colors the same and chose to draw her own design that felt like a happy complement to the original.

If you love the squirrel design she made, there is good news! That design is currently available for purchase in our shop.

Also if you’ve watched our video, you can see that this design was free for a while for our email subscribers via the CoffeeCraft Community Resources page. We love being able to share freebies each month with our biggest fans and also keep you in the loop with what is going on here at CoffeeCraft. To make sure you have access to cool things like this, you can join our mailing list below. You’ll get access to our latest freebie once you confirm your subscription!

Next, transfer your design to the fabric

You can use a window by taping the design to the window and holding the fabric right side up over it to trace the pattern, or by using a lightbox. A water-soluble pen or heat-erasable pen or chalk will do the trick. Auntie Sarah always recommends doing a test with your writing utensil and fabric before committing to the whole pattern to make sure it works well for you.

Get your fabric in the embroidery hoop, and let’s get stabbing (fabric only, of course)

You can decide if you want to follow the stitch types that are mentioned in the original kit if you’re using one, or you can get creative and use whatever stitches you like. Follow your heart!

Finish off your project and celebrate your creation

Did your design come out as you planned? Our hope is that regardless of how it turned out, you can be proud of the work you created and the journey of trying something new. We’re certainly proud of you!

We’d love to see what you created, so be sure to tag us on our socials or use #coffeecraftllc. Happy crafting, friend!
