Learning with Sarah: Spooky Wreath

Trying new things is a great way to practice problem solving, and is a great way to stay inspired.

I like to call "try something you are interested in (and keep a positive and open mind)" creative play!

Regular play allows us to unlock new skills, new inspirations, and new ideas which allow us to make some seriously great things.

To show you how I problem solve, and experiment, I wanted to start a “Learning with Sarah” segment.

Today’s Learning with Sarah is focused on making my own Spooky Wreath.

This is the second wreath I’ve ever made, and the first one I’ve made on my own. I was really inspired by the beautiful wreaths available in Michaels, but seeing all the components to make my own sold in the same store motivated me to try.

Since I was playing, I didn’t have a shopping list or a plan. I found the wreath base, and picked up enough garlands and flower bundles to cover it, but it was hard to tell in the store if it’d be enough. If you want to find out more on how my learning process went, head over to my YouTube video to find out more:

If you want to make a wreath of your own the things you’ll need to gather are:

  1. One 18 inch wire wreath base

  2. One 14" inch wreath door hanger

  3. At least 3 five foot garlands (I recommend more for a fuller look)

  4. At least 2 artificial flower bundles (the bundles I got had 4 flowers on them)

  5. A centerpiece for the wreath (I found a cute 16 inch broom)

  6. At least one 8.3 yard long roll of 2.5 inch wide ribbon or mesh

  7. Some wire

  8. Hot glue & a hot glue gun

If I were to make my wreath again, these are the steps I’d take:

  1. Line the wire wreath base with the ribbon, secure with the wire or hot glue as needed

  2. Wind the flower/leaf garlands around the wreath, securing with the wire or hot glue as needed

  3. Cut the flowers from their bundles

  4. Arrange your flowers and the centerpiece to decide spacing

  5. Attach your centerpiece either with wire or hot glue

  6. Hot glue the flowers in place

  7. Optionally tie a length of ribbon to the wreath to hang it by

If this post or the YouTube video inspired you to make your own wreath or make a wreath for a loved one, I’d love to see how it turned out! Please tag me on Instagram or send me a message to let me know:
